As a former accountant, Howard got his start in the Security Camera business when a high-school buddy called him in to look at the financial records of a CCTV distribution company. Howard got the “CCTV bug” and almost three decades later he still has it. Early on, Howard discovered that most of his customers were self-taught or only received on-the-job training. There was a lack of formal training back then, so he asked a lot of questions and learned from his own and others’ mistakes (“field research”). What started out as an after lunch talk on common mistakes evolved into 2-day CCTV classes that were approved by many Southern states. He was one of eight subject matter experts (SME) who developed the Video Security Systems practice analysis for the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET). He is the co-author and editor of SIA’s Study Guide for NICET’s Video Security Technician Level I Certification. Howard has seen the CCTV/Security Industry from all sides. He has been a distributor, an integrator, a manufacturers’ rep, an importer, an applications engineer, an author and a trainer. Howard lives in Nashville, TN, is married, has two grown children, two grandchildren and a granddog. “I am very excited to be working with my long-time associates and friends, Jim Raymer and Mike Brown.”
